a mustard seed planted in a field.
It is the smallest of all seeds, but
it becomes the largest of garden
plants; it grows into a tree, and
birds come and make nests in its branches."
Matthew 13:31-32
so that time when you're waiting.
when you're wondering.
when you're just not sure.
what is my purpose?
purpose can be very elusive
for first you must define the
word itself: "the reason for
which something is done or
created or for which something
exists." now replace that last
something with someone.
in your case, you.
in my case, me.
so. what IS the reason?
and herein lies the elusiveness.
who gets to decide the reason?
and once that is determined,
who gets to decide whether
or not that purpose is
being fulfilled?
this is where I often find myself.
and this time God used a
dear friend to speak truth
into this questioning
heart.
be measured by any
standard of this world,
for is not purpose, as found
in the believer's heart,
not of this world?
purpose is extravagantly
multi-colored
multi-faceted
multi-dimensional
and with every angle
and lighting in which
the prism called purpose
is illuminated,
subtle yet profound
differences come to light.
and who is to say that a glimmer
of light radiating from within any given
heart is not accomplishing exactly that
for which it was created by our Abba?
tiny seeds of love planted into
hearts of all
shapes and sizes and ages
will bear fruit!
it matters not in what
style or building or context
the seeds are planted...
it matters only that they are
planted with love.
watered with love.
(and sometimes tears
are the moisture God
can best use)
nurtured with love.
with His love.
and God promises
that although the growth
may not always be seen or
heard or realized in a heart's
life span,
one day the seed will explode!
and is that not purpose enough?
career descriptions and titles
and income and awards
and honors...even
if that career takes place
within the realm of
another elusive word:
ministry...
none of these
accomplishments,
as wonderful as they may be,
are the standard by which
our Abba measures the worth of
a life!
the
Kingdom of God
is
an
upsidedown
Kingdom.
purpose and worth and value
are found only in one name:
Jesus. only Jesus.
Amen, keep planting seeds!
