I waited patiently for the Lord to help me,
and he turned to me and heard my cry.
He lifted me out of the pit of despair,
out of the mud and the mire.
He set my feet on solid ground
and steadied me as I walked along.
He has given me a new song to sing,
a hymn of praise to our God.
Many will see what he has done and be
amazed.
They will put their trust in the Lord.
Psalm 40:1-3
promises absolutely stunning
yet so often read without
really absorbing.
and I am guilty.
a shepherd turned king listened as
the Spirit whispered to his heart
words that would reverberate
through the centuries from
heart to heart to heart.
the Creator of galaxies and
planets and clouds and storms
wind and seasons and sunrises
and sunsets and mountains and
rivers and oceans and deserts and
animals and birds and flowers and
every heart and life ever lived,
ever lives and ever will live.
this God turns toward the
heart crying out and He
hears and listens!
and He acts, for love is a verb.
He lifts the crying heart from the pit.
and oh the variety of pits a beating heart
is prone to either falling into or being
thrown into or stumbling or jumping
or however the pit becomes home.
and some pits are home for
so long that they become
a strange type of comfort.
(this heart has spent far too much time
in the past calling pits home)
and He doesn't stop there!
no ~ He sets us on our feet
and steadies us much as a
parent steadies a baby learning to walk.
this is the infinite love of our Abba.
and He still doesn't stop there!
He gives the heart a song to sing ~
a new song of praise to the One
who rescues.
and the blessing comes
full circle when those who
are observing, whether directly
or indirectly, see the change in
the heart now free and are
amazed.
and many will believe.
and perhaps most astounding?
because of grace, no pit is too deep.
that He cannot reach.
no pit is too dark
that His light cannot pierce.
no stay is too long that He
cannot redeem.
and grace does not
keep count of how
often we end up
in either pits of
our own making
or those made
for us.
this is the beauty of grace.
it knows no boundaries.
it knows no limits.
all because of Jesus.
Jesus. only Jesus.

what if
"what if, My child,
My answers to your prayers
look completely different
than what you picture?
what if My answers look
so radically unlike what
you anticipate that
you fail to recognize
them for what they are?
and this is not judgement, child,
but rather simply the result of
being human in your humanity.
remember, My beloved, that
answers to prayers are often
similar to life itself...
a journey is involved.
any movement which
is heading toward Me
is already an answer!
and that which still
appears to be
shards of glass
scattered on the ground
or dried leaves blowing
in the wind is really
My answer already
in progress!
the heart which
from the outside
seems to be in ruins
is actually
redemption in all its
glorious messiness!
for never have I said that
redemption is neat
and orderly. in fact it rarely is.
and remember, My child, that
My thoughts and My ways are
nothing like yours.
they are not even in the same realm,
for I exist in a dimension you cannot
begin to fathom.
and you simply cannot see
the battles being fought in the
unseen spiritual world.
occasionally I give you
glimpses, yet most is
invisible to the human eye.
My beloved child,
sometimes circumstances
appearing to have no redeeming
qualities at best
are what I use as a catalyst for
redemption.
and remember always:
the darkest
moments
of night
are right
before dawn.
continue to pray with
passion and purpose.
never do I ignore a
tear or whisper or
cry of the heart
so praise Me while you pray.
thank Me for what I have done,
for what I am presently doing,
and what I yet will do."

Romans 8 ~ the dark night of the soul
What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us? Since he did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won't he also give everything else? Who dares accuse us when God has chosen for his own? No one - for God himself has given us right standing with himself. Who then will condemn us? No one - for Christ Jesus died for us and was raised to life for us, and he is sitting in the place of honor at God's right hand, pleading for us.
Can anything ever separate us from Christ's love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? As the Scriptures say, "For your sake we are killed every day; we are being slaughtered like sheep." No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ who loved us.
And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God's love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today, nor our worries about tomorrow - not even the powers of hell can separate us from God's love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below - indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 8:31-39
5.30.2016.
a day to remember.
a day to honor those who made
the ultimate sacrifice.
life itself.
a heart beating
one moment is
still the next.
and those hearts
left behind,
although still beating,
are shattered in pieces
on the ground.
and this is a journey into a
dark night of the soul
which I have not
personally walked.
I have experienced
my own dark nights of the soul
but not this one.
and my heart
breaks for those
hearts for whom
this day embodies
all that is reality every
single
day.
the Creator of hearts
understands sacrifice.
He gave His Son to
give life and freedom.
He knows the pain so
piercing and consuming.
and never does He leave
a heart to wander through
the dark night of the soul
alone.
never.
alone.
never.
nothing will ever
separate us from the
love of God. nothing.
and to the heart feeling
crushed and lifeless...
know that in your moments
of despair His light pierces
even the darkest shade
of black.
hope is that
candle burning
and that hope has
a beautiful name.
and His name is Jesus.

desires fulfilled Ps 37:4 & Ps 27:4
Take delight in the Lord,
and he will give you your heart's
desires.
Psalm 37:4
delight = great pleasure.
taking delight in the Lord
involves bending and leaning
toward Him and into Him. always.
enjoying being in His presence
because of love. pure love.
and when the heart so in love dares
to be vulnerable with Him,
an intimacy and a longing for even
more of Him results and the
heart beats faster
simply at the thought
of being in His presence.
(and to think:
this is but a fraction of the
delight our Abba feels when we
cry out to Him!
the Creator and Sustainer of all
longs for intimacy with you
and with me!
and whether the cry is
one of joy or sadness or
anger or any emotion possible,
His response never varies.
His. arms. are. open.)
so when we take delight in Him,
we will be given our hearts' desires.
the psalmist leaves it rather
wide open, for the
definition of 'desires'
is as limitless as there
are hearts able to desire.
as for my heart, I am discovering
that when the desire of my heart,
the truest, deepest longing,
is found in more of Him, the
fulfillment of the desire comes
full circle.
for if my delight is Him,
the fulfillment is Him.
and what more could I ask for
than more
of
Him.
"The one thing I ask of the Lord -
the thing I seek most -
is to live in the house of the Lord all the
days of my life,
delighting in the Lord's perfections
and meditating in his temple."
Psalm 27:4

outpouring ~ Habakkuk 2:14
"...for as the waters fill the sea,
the earth will be filled with an
awareness
of the glory of the LORD..."
Habakkuk 2:14
Pentecost.
the unleashing of the Spirit
on the followers of Jesus.
He had told them to wait.
to wait in Jerusalem until
the promised gift of the Father
would come in the form of the
Holy Spirit.
and. He. came.
first in wind,
then in fire,
then in word.
and the words spoken
by those freshly anointed
followers of Jesus
were not in the
languages they knew.
the Holy Spirit simply took over
and those who followed were
never the same again!
every language of every person
present in Jerusalem
that day was heard
by the very person
who could
understand it!
is that not so our God?
and whether or not we
grasp the enormity of it or not,
the same Holy Spirit lives and
breathes and loves and speaks
in and through each one of
us who follow Jesus today.
and the power of Pentecost is no different
today than it was on that first
Pentecost!
will we be as bold as the church
which was born on that day?
will we take risks and step out
in faith to follow where
His Spirit leads?
are we willing to leave
the comfort and safety
of what we know to take
that first step on the water?
for is that not the call He has
placed on our lives?
every language and people
and nation heard the gospel
that first Pentecost and
does that not give us
the same mission?
we are not called to
be content and at rest.
the word Christian is not
a noun...it is a verb!
Jesus told His followers that
the Holy Spirit would come and
give them the power to take
the gospel to the entire
world.
and that command has no
expiration date.
and I am among the guiltiest of
the guilty.
fear can paralyze.
doubt can consume.
it is safer to be safe.
yet I must choose to live
a perfectly imperfect life
in the power and outpouring
of His Spirit,
free to love and laugh
and give and share
and tell all who
will listen that
there is hope.
always there is hope.
and the essence of Pentecost
is sharing that hope that is
found in the One who
promised that initial
outpouring of the Spirit
and we will never be
the same again.
