glue and duct tape ~ Ps. 147:3

                                      so just when you've convinced
                                yourself that you've pretty much
                           got it together,
                                   the glue comes loose,
                                             the duct tape falls off.
                                                      and you know.
                                                            and even if you
                                                         already knew
                                                     that you didn't
                                                  have it together,
                                              at least most of world
                                            living outside of you
                                         thought you did.
                                                     until this moment.
                                                     and your moment
                                                     is different from
                                                     my moment, and
                                                     the other person's
                                                     moment is different
                                                     from yours or mine and
                                                            so on and so on.

                                                and in all reality,
                                                   does it matter what
                                                       exactly caused the
                                                           moment?
                                                           no. it simply
                                                           matters that the
                                                           the moment exists.

                                                      why? you might ask.
                                                  what is significant about
                                              the moment when the
                                          mask is removed
                                          and the truth is known?
                                              (although not every person
                                                  has had a moment,
I believe most of us have,
or will have at some point)
                                               and the importance is this...
                                            when we realize
                                          when we accept
                                        that we can no longer
pretend to have it all together
                                   a burden is released.
a weight falls off our shoulders.
for is it not exhausting to live in a
                                     masquerade?

                                     we. can. be. real.

we can allow ourselves to be
                                             vulnerable and honest.
                                                   not only with others,
                                                          but even more
                                                                crucial, we
                                                            can be honest
                                                         with God.
                                                    He knew all along,
                                                for He knows all.
                                            yet He patiently
                                         waits for each heart
to wave the white flag of
                                 surrender and begin the process
that leads to ultimate healing and
                          redemption so beautiful in Him.
                                and. it. can. happen.
                                 I know. I've lived it.

and I had a choice to make...
we all have a choice to make.
                                (often more than once)
do we want to open doors most
                                  likely holding pain
                                      but which will lead
                                         to healing,
                                         or do we
want to push it all aside and
                                            begin a new masquerade?

duct tape and glue are always
                                         an option,
                                       but to use them
                                     again and again brings
                                   a heaviness and hopelessness.

                                   God doesn't ask for hearts
                                                           for lives
                                                           to be without
                                                           a need for glue
                                                           and duct tape...
                                                       He simply asks
                                                   that we lay the
                                                broken pieces
                                            of who we are
                                         in His hands.
                                         He will gently hold
                                             and heal and love.
                                                  and through the
                                                      cracks and chips
                                                          of our imperfection
                                                          His light will shine.

                                  He heals the brokenhearted
                                      and bandages their wounds.
                                                       Psalm 147:3

songs even when...Habakkuk 3:17-19

                                                   songs bring hope when
                                               hope seems hard to find.

                                                 songs bring peace when
                                                    peace seems elusive.

                                         songs bring joy when
                                             life seems joyless.

                                                   songs bring light when
                                                          all
                                                             seems
                                                                      dark.

Even though the fig trees have no
                                    blossoms,
                              and there are no grapes on the vines;
even though the olive crop fails,
                              and the fields lie empty and barren;
even though the flocks die in the fields,
and the cattle barns are empty,
yet I will rejoice in the Lord!
I will be joyful in the God of my
                                      salvation!
The Sovereign Lord is my strength!
He makes me as surefooted as a deer,
able to tread on the heights.
                                                  Habakkuk 3:17-19
and is this not a song?
is not every promise a song?
and is not even that which hurts
                                                   oh so deeply
                                                   a song in the making?

                                              when the heart is broken
                                           when all seems lost
                                        when prayers seem
                                             to hit the ceiling
                                                   and you fear He
                                                          might not be
                                                               listening because
                                                            you hear nothing
                                                       but silence,
                                                   is singing often
                                                the last thing the heart
                                             feels like doing?

oh but this is the time to sing!

                                       Abba is gently brushing
                                         designs of vivid colors in
                                            stark contrast to the dark
                                               dark and painful places
                                                  of the heart...
                                                     and in that process a
                                                         song of worship
                                                              is born.

Kingdom

                             "Kingdom.
                              My Kingdom.
                                past. present. future.
My Kingdom was. is. will be. always.
                                      My Kingdom transcends
                                          time and space and definition.
                                            in your humanness so human,
you long to have what is
                                            really an illusion of success
                                        in defining the indefinable.
yet when you 'achieve' this goal,
I am no longer in the kingdom you
                                 believe I am building.

you see, My child, if it were possible
for you or any other human to define
Kingdom, it would no longer be
                                        My Kingdom,
                                            for My Kingdom
                                                 is always moving
                                                 and shifting and growing
                                                 and changing much as a
                                                 prism of light reflects
                                                 a multitude of colors.

this is not to say that I change,
for I AM the same yesterday,
                                                                     today,
                                                                     forever.

yet My Kingdom, as it applies to
and appears to you, My child, is
                               as elusive as the wind.
                             My Kingdom will almost always
look and be the exact opposite of
                           what you picture.
                              you simply cannot contain
                                 the uncontainable
                                     or put parameters
                                         around the wind of
                                             My Spirit!
                                             My Spirit breathes
the very breath of life into
                                           all that is truly Kingdom.
and Kingdom is you, My child,
along with all those who live in
and for Me and My Kingdom.
                                   Kingdom touches and saves
                                 and redeems and restores and
renews and empowers and is alive,
just as My Son is alive!

so much energy is spent on defining
                                and defending definitions of Kingdom,
                                   and this saddens My heart.
this is not to say that I do not use
                                        form and structure and building.
                                           I DO!
                                              yet that is not what
                                                 defines Me!
                                                    again, picture trying to
                                                contain the wind within
four walls, for no matter how
                                         beautiful those walls may be,
                                     they cannot contain the wind.

so take no moment for granted.
when I hand you a vision
                                                              a dream
                                                              a ministry
                                                              run, My child.
                                                              run not only
                                                         like the wind,
                                                      but with the wind.
                                                  living, breathing miracles
are in the process of coming
                                            to life
                                            and the brush I use
as I continue to paint Kingdom
                                                 on people of every color
                                                                 of every race
                                                                 of every status
                                                              or category
                                                              imaginable,
                                                           is a brush as
                                                           limitless as
                                                           the hand
                                                           holding
                                                           it.

                                              and that hand is Mine.
                                              those hands are Mine.
                                           and they are the nail-pierced
                                           hands on which innumerable
                                           names are engraved. forever.

                                                so. live. Kingdom.
                                            worry not.
                                            obsess not.
                                            simply live with
                                            eyes wide open and
                                            heart tenderly responsive
                                            in anticipation of where
and how I will use you
                                            to live and breathe
                                            Kingdom detail.
                                            and remember,
                                            My child, that
                                    always you are living Kingdom.
                                    the colors and shapes and
                                    movements and designs
                                    change as My hand
                                    continues to tenderly
                                    brush the strokes of your
heart on the canvas of your life.

letting go

Isaac turned to Abraham and said, "Father?"
                              "Yes, my son?" Abraham replied.
"We have the fire and the wood," the
boy said, "but where is the sheep for
                        burnt offering?"
"God will provide a sheep for the burnt
                        offering, my son," Abraham answered.
                                                   Genesis 22:7-8

God was asking Abraham to give
to Him the most precious gift he
had ever been given. his son. Isaac.
the promised one for whom his parents
had waited. and waited. and then waited.
and now it seemed as if God were asking
                          Abraham to give him back.

could it be that Isaac was
                                      so cherished by his father
that he had taken the space
                                                  that only Abraham's
                                                       Father was to occupy?

                                                    first place in
                                                his heart and life.
                                             and is not anything or
                                         anyone a heart puts before
or above God an idol of sorts?

not that we literally bow down
and worship a possession or a child or
a mate or a parent or a friend or whomever
or whatever is occupying that space above God,
yet is that not in reality exactly what happens?

this I know from first hand experience.
and not just a one time
experience, for I tend to be a
bit of a slow learner in some areas.

                                           one would assume that a
                                        lesson learned through pain
                                     would not easily be forgotten.
                                   and sometimes that proves true.
yet other times God, in His incredible
patience, has to remind me time and
time again who is to have
                                                  first place and
                                                  first priority
                                                  in my heart.

                                     and that would be Himself.

not because He needs me to make
                                His heart whole and complete,
                                but rather because He knows
that only when He is first
                                will my heart be whole
                                and complete.

                                                        and once again
                                                     He teaches me that
                                                  true love loves loosely.
and true love gives back to
Him what in reality was and is
                                            His all along.
and He is more than able
to hold and love and cherish and
provide for and heal and redeem
                                    any situation or circumstance or
                                    person or persons He places
                                      in my life.
                                      or in your life.

she lives on

there was a little girl named Autumn...she danced and twirled and laughed and sang her way into every heart she ever met...she smiled with her whole body...especially her eyes...bright and sparkly and twinkling...she loved everyone and everyone loved her...especially her mommy and daddy and brother and sister and grandpas and grandmas
and uncles and aunts and cousins
and Jesus...
Autumn knew how much Jesus loved her and she loved Him as much as her little three year old heart possibly could...

so when the day that became the before and after day...the day when life became identified as before Autumn went to heaven and after Autumn went to heaven...questions swirled and hearts ached and tears flowed and a place in her family's hearts was forever left empty...and how does one explain why something evil and wrong and tragic and heartbreaking happens anyway? are there really answers to unanswerable questions? is it possible to comprehend the incomprehensible? I don't believe it is...at least to any satisfying degree on this side of heaven...

yet hope remains.
2 1/2 years after Autumn's Glory Day, God is truly bringing good of out what was meant for evil...her mommy and daddy have worked tirelessly to bring into the light that which so often lives in the darkness...child abuse...inflicting pain on the most innocent and precious and defenseless...children of all ages...the voiceless ones now have a voice...and although the voices of Autumn's mommy and daddy still waver with emotion many times, they are standing firm and strong and saying no more...
END IT! for Autumn seeks to end child abuse
and bring healing help to young victims.

hard questions still remain...tears still flow...a bed remains empty...life will certainly never be the same...yet Autumn's mommy and daddy and sister and brother and everyone else who loved her know that she still dances and twirls and laughs and sings...she still smiles with her whole body...her eyes are still bright and sparkly and twinkling...she lives in perfection perfected with Jesus...
and one day they will hold her again...
and Autumn lives on in every child whose life is saved.
