because there are no words..."
and has not nearly every heart
been in this exact place?
the place of crying out to God
and hearing
utter silence.
and does a place
more desolate exist?
for when a heart believes
that abandonment
is even a possibility,
the dark night of the soul
becomes darker still.
and the heart seems to sink
further and further into that
place called hopelessness.
this heart knows that place
and understands the desperation.
yet this heart also knows this truth:
never, ever does He not hear a cry.
never, ever does He turn His face away.
for only once did God turn His face away,
and because He turned His face from
His Son,
we have absolute assurance
that He will never look away.
and even when the silence is so loud
you cannot seem to hear,
He is singing over you
as He holds you close.
and when the only color you can see
is pre-dawn black,
His presence is so very real.
and like a tiny flame in the darkness
puts us on tiptoe,
so that same darkness
compels the heart to
press even more securely
into the arms of our Abba.
and the closer to His heart
we find our own hearts,
the more clearly we are able hear
His voice whisper:
"Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you.
I have called you by name; you are
Mine.
When you go through deep waters,
I will be with you.
When you go through rivers of difficulty,
you will not drown.
When you walk through the fire of
oppression,
you will not be burned up;
the flames will not consume you.
For I am the LORD, your God,
the Holy One of Israel, your Savior."
Isaiah 43
