a new normal ~ Romans 8:38~39

                                            rarely are
                                                new normals
                                                    something we
                                                        seek out.
                                                             rather,
                                                      they seem to find us,
                                                 often invading and
                                            radically changing
                                        everything we know.

                                       we are left stunned.

                                     and it is nearly impossible
                                         to not question God.
                                             to ask that small yet
                                                  all encompassing word:
                                                                         why?
                                                                over
                                                       and
                                             over.
                                                     and honestly,
                                                        His answers do not
                                                            always satisfy.
                                                      for
                                            how do you understand
                                              the ununderstandable?
                                                 how do you comprehend
                                                    the incomprehensible?

                                        when the heart is still
                                     enough to hear, He whispers,
                                 "My beloved child,
                                  I am here.
                                  I am closer
                                  than your next breath,
                                          your next heartbeat.
                                                  I. am. here.

                                              no pain is without purpose.
                                              no pain is ever wasted.
                                         every lonely moment,
                                         every heartbreak,
                                         every tear cried,
                                              are being woven
                                              into the very fabric
                                              of your heart with a
                                              delicacy unimaginable.
                                                        not for one moment
have I or will I let go.
                                                 the story of your life
                                              is being formed into
                                              a living, breathing testimony.
                                                 an exquisite love story,
                                                     written before
                                                         time began
                                                             by
                                                                  My
                                                                        hand.

                                                        do not be afraid.
                                                    do not fear the
                                                 departure from
                                              what you know,
                                              for you can be assured
                                                     that the unknown is
                                                            not unknown to Me.
                                                         nothing can separate
                                                       you from Me.
                                                    no place on earth,
                                                 no emotion felt,
                                              no court room,
                                           no hospital room,
                                           no darkness black
                                              exists where My light,
                                                                    My love,
                                                                      My peace,
                                                                        My comfort
                                                                   are not.
                                                              for I AM.
                                                         and I am for you,
                                                      not against you.
                                                   in time that which
                                                feels so wrong today
                                             will be embraceable
                                          as the beauty of your
                                              story unfolds."
                                                    your Abba

And I am convinced that nothing can
ever separate us from God's love.
                                     Neither death nor life,
                                        neither angels nor demons,
                                           neither our fears for today
nor our worries about tomorrow ~
not even the powers of hell can
                                   separate us from God's love.
No power in the sky above
                                        or in the earth below~
                                           indeed, nothing in all creation
will ever be able to separate
us from the love of God that
                                           is revealed in Christ Jesus,
                                                      our Lord.

before time

                                             gray clouds hang low.
                                                  tiny raindrops kiss roses
                                                        so white.
                                                             tears fall,
                                                                  mingling
                                                                     with the rain.

                                                                     from before
                                                               time even began,
                                                           He saw this day.

                                                         before the
                                                    morning stars
                                              were taught to sing
                                         and planets placed in orbit,
                                                He knew.

                                                       He knew when
                                                   her first heartbeat
                                               would softly stir.
He knew when that same heart
                                                 would beat its last.
                                                        and He knew every
                                                                heartbeat
                                                                       in between.
                                                                    He knew
                                                                every step
                                                             she would take.
                                                         He knew every
                                                     smile and laugh
                                                 as well as tear
                                              she would cry.
                                                 and He gathered
                                                     those tears tenderly
                                                         to keep forever,
                                                              just as He gathers
                                                              your tears today.

                                                          He knew each song
                                                                she would sing,
                                                              for how could
                                                           the Composer
                                                        not know every
                                                     intimate detail
                                                  and nuance of
                                                His composition?

                                                He knew each harmony
                                                   that would be formed as
                                                      the melody of her life,
                                                         soaring with beauty,
                                                       would intertwine with
                                                    the life songs of those
                                                 blessed to be called
                                              her family,
                                              her friends.

                                         and He knew the exquisite
                                         richness and depth of love
                                         as two life songs
                                             blended into one,
                                                 became three.
                                                     three lives
                                                          woven together
                                                                in His symphony
                                                                   for His glory.

                                                               this movement,
                                                            this season,
                                                         which began
                                                      thirteen years ago,
                                                   is now transitioning into
                                                 the next.
                                                 tears fell on her face
                                                   as you held her close,
                                                      gently letting go
                                                         as Jesus gathered
                                                             her into His arms.

                                                                 until you meet
                                                             again.

                                                      "He will wipe every tear
                                               from their eyes, and there
will be no more death or sorrow
or crying or pain. All these things
                                                 are gone
                                                                 forever."

sun, shade, rain, roof

sun or shade...rain or roof...four words searing into my soul...am I the scorching desert sun burning you or the shade protecting you? am I the cold rain soaking you or the roof sheltering you? am I for you or against you? am I building you up or tearing you down? profound questions begging to be answered...especially in these days of division and disunity...

it matters not what the issues are, even when the issues are as complex and the ramifications as far-reaching as they are today...the issue at hand...the one tugging at my heart is how we are treating one another...and I will be the first to admit that certain viewpoints and words have drawn out in me some responses (even if only in thought) that are anything but Jesus-like...I have had to take a step back and ground myself in what I know to be true...that issues aside, Jesus commands us to love each other...you might say,"well that is the exact issue!" and you are right...the conversations have been about how do we love the least of these, whether the least be an unborn child or an already born child or adult in desperate need...

yet for this moment I am thinking about how we as Jesus lovers are treating one another..."This is My commandment: Love each other in the same way I have loved you. There is no greater love than to lay down one's life for one's friends." Jesus, in John 15:12-13

loving each other certainly doesn't mean we must agree on all things...rather it is in how we disagree...I believe the Father's heart weeps when we attack those who think differently from us...and has not social media provided the perfect platform for this? so easy to sit behind a screen criticizing or belittling or judging one another...oh how the enemy loves the disunity and outright anger resulting!

and I have not always loved well...I have been the sun scorching and the rain soaking those who love Jesus just as I do yet have an opinion different from mine...and for that I am sorry...not that I must be sorry for my opinion just as you need not be sorry for your opinion, for we both believe very passionately in that which we believe...it is in our mutual reaction to one another's opinions where we must be careful, for a world is watching...

"I have given them the glory you gave me, so they may be one as we are one. I am in them and you are in me. May they experience such perfect unity that the world will know that you sent me and that you love them as much as you love me." Jesus, in John 17:22-23

the least

                                                Then this message came to
                                             Zechariah from the Lord:
"This is what the Lord of
                                               Heaven's Armies says:
                                                   Judge fairly, and show
                                                        mercy and kindness to
                                                     one another. Do not
                                                  oppress widows,
                                               orphans, foreigners,
                                             and the poor."
                                                   Zechariah 7:8-10

                                            she sits in sand.
                                      wind relentless and cold drives
                                   the harsh grains of sand
                                   like tiny shards of glass
                                   into skin so soft.
big brown eyes well up with tears.
                                          cold,
                                              hungry,
                                                  homeless.
                                                       all she knows is
                                                             where she sits.

                                                       somewhere
                                                    in her memory
                                                she hears sounds and
                                             sees sights that her mind
                                          has not succeeded in burying.
                                                the sounds of war.
                                                       bombs
                                                                 raining
                                                                             down.
                                                                     her home
                                                                destroyed
                                                           as cries fill the air.
                                                       pictures frozen in time
                                                  are of the wounded
                                              and dead
                                                lying in the street,
                                                   her city in ruins.

                                                      and the smell of war.
                                                   dust rises from buildings
                                                   crumpled as if toy blocks
                                                   knocked over in play.
                                                     only this is not play.
                                                        her parents do what
                                                           any of us who are
                                                               parents would do:
                                                                  run.
                                                                  flee.
                                                                  gather what
                                                                  little can be
                                                                     carried along
                                                                         with small
                                                                             ones so
                                                                           terrified
                                                                     and leave all
                                                                they know.
                                                          run for safety,
                                                     having no idea where
                                                that will be found.

                                                who will help?

                                                       another family
                                              with hopes so high
                                        sits in an airport.
                                        caught in a web
                                             of orders and laws
                                                 so tangled.
                                                     so close to freedom.
so close to a new life.
                                                          yet
                                                                oh
                                                                     so
                                                                          far.

                                                           do we care?

                                                         I believe we do.
                                                     loving with the love of
                                                  Jesus leaves no room for
                                               ignoring those in such
                                            desperate need.
                                            yet courage is required,
                                                for loving like Jesus
                                                     is not for the
                                                         faint of heart.

                                            "Then they will reply, 'Lord,
when did we ever see you hungry
or thirsty or a stranger or naked or
sick or in prison, and not help you?'
And he will answer, 'I tell you the truth,
when you refused to help the least of
                                     these my brothers and sisters,
you were refusing to help me.'"
                                             Matthew 25:44-45

                                                so often Jesus talked
                                                   about taking care of
                                                      widows, orphans,
                                                      prisoners, foreigners,
                                                      and those in need.
                                                   some are saying
we must care for our own,
                                             and that is absolute truth.
yet did not Jesus die for
                                       all people and nations
                                     and ethnicity and belief
                                     and gender and color
                                     and anything else
                                     making them
                                     different
                                     from us?

                                         I am certainly no expert
                                             in immigration law
                                                 or procedure.
nor can I, on my own,
                                           change the world.
                                        yet if I do nothing,
is that not akin to agreeing
                                     with that which I believe
                                          breaks the heart of Jesus?
so with my one small voice,
                                                   I speak.
                                                        the ground at the
                                                        foot of the cross
                                                        is level. grace.
