You rule the mighty sea
and calm the stormy
waves
Psalm 89:9
waves crash around the heart
wave after wave after wave
relentless pounding
fear overcomes
as lungs gasp
storms of the heart
current swift and strong
hidden beneath waves
taking the heart
further
and further
out to sea
storms of the heart
storms need not be fierce
currents need not be extreme
to damage the heart
often the inconspicuous
the unnoticeable
the everyday
leave the heart wounded
storms of the heart
some created by the heart itself
some created by forces beyond the heart's control
yet no matter the source
a voice whispers over the storm raging
"My child,
I understand -
long before your first heartbeat your first breath
I created the waves the wind the rain the storm
My voice alone brought them into being
My voice alone controls them
with My word
the raging storm is silenced so it is with storms of the heart -
I walked through storms created by My hand
so you would know that I know My own heart cried out in the storm
I understand hearts battered
bleeding
bruised
when you feel as if
you are on the beach
and I in the middle of the ocean
that is when I am most near, My child
I will hold you through the storm
and as the roots of a tree grow deeper
the more intensely the longer the wind blows
so, too, is your heart growing deeper
growing closer to My own heart
the longer the storm rages
so cherish the storms
know I am working through the storm
bringing beauty unimaginable from darkness
bringing My plan My purpose My dreams for you
to completeness in My time
storms of the heart
some created by the heart itself
some created by forces beyond the heart's control
yet no matter the source
a voice whispers over the storm raging
"My child,
