layover: a period of rest or waiting
before a further stage in a
journey.
would you consider a layover
to be something
positive or
negative?
and I realize
the variables
one would use to
make this determination
are pretty much endless.
what is the destination
of the journey?
what is the length of time
in the layover?
where is the layover
taking place?
who is on the journey
with you?
and so on and
so on.
some layovers are literal
while others are figurative.
some layovers are of our
own making
while others
are a result
of another's
actions or words.
most are somewhere
between the two.
whether chosen
or unchosen,
reaction
counts.
for really, does not the
attitude of the person
in waiting
make
all the
difference?
and that is not to say choosing
an attitude positive over
an attitude negative
would be easy.
far from it.
yet I have learned
first hand that a
layover's duration
is unlikely to be
altered by complaining
or worrying or stressing
or becoming bitter or
slipping into the role of
the victim.
suppose the layover in your
life right now is a season
in between what was
and what is to be.
now suppose you
have no idea what the
what is to be will end up being.
not an easy nor
desirable space
in which to live.
yet often is it
not
reality?
a very wise friend
suggested that
all of life is
really about the one.
focusing on the one
God has placed in
your or my path
today.
you may
never know
who the one is,
but
God
does.
what if in the layovers of life,
(and in all reality, we all live
in a perpetual layover, for
this. is. not. our. home.
this is not our final destination)
what if we lived each day
for the one?
every day a new
opportunity to impact
the one
right where
we are.
layovers are inevitable in
this journey called life.
layovers are never
wasted space
but rather
an opportunity
to be drawn closer
to the heart of the One
who knows all and sees all.
a time for growth and renewal
and making a difference for
the
one.
Thank you for sharing, Julie. What a precious writing.
