"You prepare a feast for me
in the presence of my enemies."
Psalm 23:5
a feast.
a table.
a banquet.
for me.
for you.
in front of my enemies.
in front of your enemies.
sheep at a table
with the Shepherd.
why?
because He loves you.
because He loves me.
and the best part?
where it takes place:
on the battlefield.
have you ever been in
a battle?
I think I can safely say
the answer is yes, no
matter who you are.
our battles differ
in type.
in duration.
in intensity.
in a thousand ways
for you are you
and I am me.
some battles are
physical, others are emotional.
still others are relational, others are
financial or illness or loneliness.
the list is endless, is it not?
and battles typically are not fun.
usually pain of some type is involved.
yet Jesus promises to be with us.
in fact, He wants to be with us.
and He is our refuge in the
middle of the battle.
He is our sustenance
when the battle rages on.
I don't know about you,
but some battles are so long
and so intense that weariness
sets in.
times exist when I feel a bit
tattered
and
torn.
and sometimes
I need to be reminded.
reminded that He is for me.
He is not against me.
ever.
and all I need do is look.
look back and trace
His fingerprints.
look back
and see
promises fulfilled.
always.
and look around
at today.
beauty
everywhere.
perhaps not in all
circumstances,
yet I have a Shepherd
who has a table prepared
for me always.
and for you. always.
in the middle of the
battle.
is there any greater assurance?
