so what is a heart to do
after a loss so enormous?
how can a day such as
Thanksgiving be
survived
when
the
heart is grieving?
even though the heart may
indeed be thankful,
the day designated
to give thanks seems
a reminder just too
vivid that someone
or something is missing.
gone.
and the emptiness
can overwhelm.
perhaps your loss
is as recent as mere
days ago.
perhaps the reality
has not yet sunk in.
or perhaps your loss
was weeks, months, years,
even decades ago.
and the reality is all
too
real.
and the heart
still aches.
losses differ in size
and shape and color
and hue,
yet
no matter what,
the
pain
exists
and the hurt hurts.
and His words bring hope
to that heart so broken:
"He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak.
Even youths grow tired and weary,
and young men stumble and fall;
but those who hope in the Lord
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not and not be faint."
Isaiah 40:29-31
these words do not promise to bring
back the person or thing lost.
they do not promise to right
the wrong in the here and now.
but oh the hope they bring!
you. are. not. alone.
you need not be able to
run,
walk,
even crawl
on your own,
for He will carry you
and lift you up to soar above
the crushing weight of
grief and despair.
He understands
your pain.
lift your eyes
to the One
who holds
the stars
in His hands
and is the wind
beneath the wings
of the eagle.
He will never let you go.

the one
"If a man has a hundred sheep and
one of them wanders away, what
will he do? Won't he leave the
ninety-nine others on the
hills and go out to search
for the one that is lost?
And if he finds it, I tell you
the truth, he will rejoice over it
more than over the ninety-nine
that didn't wander away!
In the same way, it
is not my heavenly
Father's will that
even
one
of these
little ones
should perish."
Matthew 18:12-14
the one.
always the one.
always it is about
the
one.
words pressed on my heart
and whispered to my spirit.
words comforting
yet convicting
all at the
same time.
the heart of
Jesus always
looked for the one
straying and
wandering and
running or
perhaps even
pushed away
because His love
is relentless and
passionate and
furiously tender
and knows
no
boundaries.
His love is
radical and
unconventional
and all-inclusive.
and He commands
each one of us to
do as He does.
and that is not
always easy and
love can get a bit
messy
when we dare
to love the one and
look that one in the eye
and say "you matter"
no matter what.
and messy is part of
who we are called
to be in this oh so
broken and messy
world of ours.
and redemption
is messy
and grace
is messy
but oh what
a beautiful mess!
and always He looks
for
the
one.
